Our story begins like this,
The first day we met was the first day I arrived in Rexburg Idaho, fresh back from my mission in Uruguay and a couple weeks back at home. Andrea (my sister) and I just got into town; we both had full cars and needed help unloading. Andrea asked a group of her friends to help with the unpacking. After the van was unloaded Andrea redirected the attention to me and made sure I met all of her good friends. I can still remember shaking Mackenzie’s hand, and thinking, “wow, she is cute.” Next thing I know everyone is piling into the minivan to come help me unpack my things. Mackenzie was one of the friends helping and had an enjoyable time yelling for everyone to hear, “Griffin’s here! Griffin’s here! Everyone wants to be friends with Griffin!” I was amused by her energy and grateful for her help. Later that day everyone got together at Mackenzie and Sam’s apartment. We were all just hanging out and some old friends of Andrea were all catching up on some good times they had together. I could sense that I wasn’t the only new person in the room. Mackenzie and I were too much alike, and we both found each other very adorable. Me in my baseball tee and her in one of her many great outfits. There were many thoughts going through my head when I’d look at Mackenzie, one of them was definitely, “I wonder if Mackenzie would want to leave right now and go do something fun?” I didn’t say anything, I guess I was still a bit awkward fresh off my mission, but she said something to the group, “Are we going to go do something now?” I think I was the only one that heard her, so I said, “I’m ready, let’s go!” We didn’t end up doing anything that night, but it was nice to meet a new friend. I remember one evening in my apartment thinking about her and if I was ever going to see her again. So I decided to send my sister a text and ask her if she spent any time with Mackenzie, she replied, “yeppers” so I asked, “do you think Id have a chance at getting Mackenzie’s number?” she told me that she had a boyfriend, so I gave up wondering about that, for the moment… Later I was given an opportunity to talk to her. Although it was in a roundabout way, it was an opportunity of a lifetime I thought. She left her number on the back of one of my receipts and told me to call her. When I called she asked me if she could come over, my immediate thought was “Yes please!” but I smoothed it out a bit. She came over with some things to talk about my sister and her; so I listened, not much flirting going on between us, but I suppose I got to talk to her nonetheless.
I also found out that she was no longer with anyone and looking for new friends. Conveniently I was in the same boat… So I asked her to the mall in Idaho Falls that Thursday. This was our first date! I was planning on going to the mall and she was wondering how to get there, so we went together. She liked me, I could tell. I really liked her; I think she knew that as well. We were both looking forward to the next party, or night we could be together. To my luck, that weekend we were together a lot, I even got to dance with her and have her fall asleep by my side while watching Jurassic park. They were times I won’t forget, I loved every moment. After that weekend, we were inseparable. Every day we saw each other, soon we spent entire days together and then eventually couldn’t spend a day apart. We had fallen in love, and we both knew it. That is us and that is our story. Together forever and always, Mackenzie and Griffin
